Cooper University Health Care, Chair of Psychiatry

Psychiatry, Cooper University Health Care

Application Deadline: 12/31/2017

Anchored by a 635-bed Level I trauma center, Cooper University Health Care (CUHC) is a comprehensive integrated delivery system comprised in part by: MD Anderson Cancer Center at Cooper, Cooper Heart Institute, Cooper Bone & Joint Institute, Cooper Urban Health Institute, and Cooper Neurosciences Institute and Critical Care. In 2008, CUHC opened a $220M, 320,000 square foot expansion encompassing a new patient care pavilion attached to the existing facility. This project is part of an effort to create a regional health science campus in Camden, NJ, which will also include a new $130 million academic and research building, a stem cell institute, cancer institute, clinical research building and a clinical office building.

A partnership between Rowan University and The Cooper Health System, Cooper Medical School of Rowan University (CMSRU) became the first new medical school in New Jersey in over 35 years and the only four-year, MD-granting medical school in South Jersey when it launched in 2012. A proudly mission-driven school, CMSRU is focused on developing highly skilled and socially conscious physician leaders who value a patient-centered, team approach to health care. Its innovative curriculum provides students with small group, self-directed learning and early and continuous patient care experiences, beginning the third week of medical school. This summer, CMSRU welcomed its fifth and largest class. Approximately 6,000 applications were received and 88 students were accepted, bringing enrollment at the school up to 307 students. CMSRU will continue to gradually increase total enrollment to a maximum of 416 students.

CMSRU earned full accreditation from the Liaison Committee on Medical Education for the maximum period of five years in June 2016, following the graduation of its Charter Class.

CUHC seeks an accomplished physician leader who can build a comprehensive psychiatry service line and psychiatry residency in collaboration with Rowan University, and increase research and scholarly activity. The Chair will report to the dean of the medical school for academic matters, to the senior executive vice president/chief physician executive for matters relating to CUCHC, and will receive an appointment from Rowan University.

Located in Camden, CUHC is proximal to the beautiful suburban towns of Haddonfield and Moorestown, and just across the river from Philadelphia. ?In the past two years, major institutions like the Campbell Soup Company, Rutgers University and Cooper University Hospital have invested nearly $1 billion toward large-scale projects in Camden, which could create upwards of 1,000 new, permanent full- or part-time jobs in the city,? according to Next American City.
